Knox, Indiana – Myles McLaughlin etched his name into the national high school football record books Friday night, breaking two national rushing records while leading Knox High School to a crucial playoff victory over Angola. The senior quarterback surpassed dominick Bragalone’s single-season rushing record of 4,704 yards and also exceeded the single-season rushing attempts record, finishing the game with 462 carries.
McLaughlin’s historic performance came during a 28-21 win that propelled Knox (13-0) further into the state playoffs. He rushed for 372 yards and four touchdowns, bringing his season total to 4,768 yards. His record-breaking touchdown, the fourth of the night, came late in the fourth quarter on a long scoring drive, extending Knox’s lead. earlier in the game, mclaughlin scored on a 52-yard run in the first quarter and a nine-yard run in the second, surpassing the previous Indiana state record of 70 rushing touchdowns held by T.A. McLendon of Albemarle (N.C.) in 2001.He now has 71 touchdowns for the season.
Beyond the rushing records, McLaughlin also sealed the victory with a late-game interception, adding another layer to his dominant performance.
“I just want to win,” McLaughlin said. ”I want to win a state championship for my school. We’ve never won a state championship here. So my goal is to keep winning. And I think with the winning, the records will come.”
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound McLaughlin has received offers from Ball State and Valparaiso and is attracting interest from other Division I programs. With the win, Knox advances in the playoffs, giving McLaughlin the prospect to continue pursuing Derrick Henry’s all-time career high school rushing record of 12,124 yards.
