Paris Critics Hail Kreisler Rediscovery, New Mozart Interpretations Amidst Diverse Musical Landscape
A new album, “Kreislermania,” featuring violinist Amanda favier and accordionist Elodie Soulard, is receiving praise from French critics for its original thematic grouping of Fritz Kreisler’s works and inventive arrangements. Together, fresh interpretations of Mozart’s symphonies and violin concerto are generating buzz, while a diverse range of artists – from the Michel Cloup Trio to DJ Snake, FKA twigs, and Tortoise – continue to shape the evolving soundscape of contemporary music.
The release of ”Kreislermania” offers a novel approach to Kreisler’s repertoire, combining his charming miniatures with arrangements spanning Beethoven to Albeniz. critic Pierre Gervasoni highlights Elodie Soulard’s transcriptions and the duo’s decade-long collaboration, describing her accordion as “a small orchestra with permanent metamorphoses” and Favier’s violin as “as prodigious as the one that inspired Kreisler.” This album arrives as classical music seeks broader audiences through innovative pairings and arrangements. Simultaneously occurring, Aylen Pritchin’s violin performance with Il Pomo d’oro, conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev, delivers new perspectives on Mozart’s Symphonies n° 35 “Haffner” and n° 36 ”Linz,” alongside his Violin Concerto No. 3.
These classical releases occur alongside significant activity in other genres. The Michel Cloup Trio continues to garner acclaim for their jazz compositions, while DJ Snake, FKA Twigs, and Tortoise remain influential figures in electronic and experimental music, each pushing boundaries within their respective fields.
