Sheffield United Sign Patrick Bamford After Viral Chant Incident
Sheffield United have completed the signing of patrick Bamford from Leeds United, a move occurring months after a video surfaced of Bamford leading a chant critical of United’s former manager, Chris Wilder. The transfer sees Bamford join a Championship side currently struggling for goals, seeking to revitalize his career after a period hampered by injury.
The incident stemmed from a Leeds United team bus in April, where Bamford instigated a chant referencing Wilder. Following the video’s circulation, Bamford and Leeds manager daniel Farke both contacted Wilder to offer apologies.
Wilder publicly stated he accepted the apologies, saying of Bamford: ”I’ve no issue at all with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.” He added, after speaking with both Bamford and Farke, “I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but has faced ongoing injury challenges throughout his career, which has included spells at Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, and Middlesbrough. Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, will be hoping Bamford can provide a much-needed attacking boost.
