Omaha Women’s Basketball Lands Five Key Recruits in 2026 Class

Omaha Women’s Basketball Adds Five‍ to 2026 Class, ‌Head ‌Coach Carey ​highlights ‌winning Mentality

OMAHA, NE – ‌ Omaha Women’s Basketball Head coach⁤ Carrie Carey announced the signing of five student-athletes to ​National ‌Letters‌ of Intent on Wednesday, bolstering the Mavericks’ 2026 recruiting class with ‍a focus⁢ on leadership, skill, and​ a⁣ proven track record of success.The class includes Ava Markowski and Sydney Terveen, with three​ additional signees yet to be publicly named.

Carey emphasized the importance of ⁣securing players​ with a winning ‌pedigree.⁣ “With our 2026 class, we⁤ have placed a premium ⁣on⁢ student-athletes that have won on some level during their high school careers,” she stated.

Ava Markowski, a versatile guard from Pius X High School, is described⁣ as a “team-first” player⁢ with strong leadership qualities. Pius X Head Coach ryan psota ‍noted Markowski’s all-around game: “Ava is a great shooter, ⁣capable driver, and very smart ⁤on the defensive‍ end⁤ of the floor.Her biggest asset to our team is passing. She ‌constantly finds‌ ways to make others around her better and creates shots⁣ for others.” Markowski ⁣excelled on the 3SSB circuit this summer,‍ demonstrating a strong⁣ three-point ​shot. Carey added, “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Ava to Omaha ‌Women’s Basketball. she plays with ‌an edge, has an‍ extremely⁤ high basketball IQ and has developed a great skill set.”

Sydney Terveen arrives at Omaha with a championship resume, having led O’gorman High School to back-to-back undefeated seasons⁢ and state championships as a sophomore⁣ and junior. The multi-sport athlete ‌(also ⁤competing in soccer) averaged 17 points, five rebounds, and⁢ four assists per game during her junior year, ⁣earning all-tournament⁤ and all-conference honors. O’Gorman Head Coach Kent Kolsrud​ praised Terveen’s ⁣competitiveness: “Sydney is a tremendous competitor⁣ who plays her ‌best in big games…Her athleticism,⁤ competitive spirit and skill level should be ⁣a ⁢great asset to the women’s basketball team at Omaha.”⁤ Sanford Sports AAU coach Caleb ‍Luckow added, “Sydney is the epitome of a⁢ winner…Omaha ⁢is getting a great ⁢piece in building their foundation and culture!” ⁤Carey​ highlighted Terveen’s ability to make winning plays, shoot the basketball, and defend.

The mavericks are building‍ a program focused on competitive spirit and a commitment to success, and‌ these early ⁤signees reflect that vision.
