Omaha Women’s Basketball Adds Five to 2026 Class, Head Coach Carey highlights winning Mentality
OMAHA, NE – Omaha Women’s Basketball Head coach Carrie Carey announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, bolstering the Mavericks’ 2026 recruiting class with a focus on leadership, skill, and a proven track record of success.The class includes Ava Markowski and Sydney Terveen, with three additional signees yet to be publicly named.
Carey emphasized the importance of securing players with a winning pedigree. “With our 2026 class, we have placed a premium on student-athletes that have won on some level during their high school careers,” she stated.
Ava Markowski, a versatile guard from Pius X High School, is described as a “team-first” player with strong leadership qualities. Pius X Head Coach ryan psota noted Markowski’s all-around game: “Ava is a great shooter, capable driver, and very smart on the defensive end of the floor.Her biggest asset to our team is passing. She constantly finds ways to make others around her better and creates shots for others.” Markowski excelled on the 3SSB circuit this summer, demonstrating a strong three-point shot. Carey added, “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Ava to Omaha Women’s Basketball. she plays with an edge, has an extremely high basketball IQ and has developed a great skill set.”
Sydney Terveen arrives at Omaha with a championship resume, having led O’gorman High School to back-to-back undefeated seasons and state championships as a sophomore and junior. The multi-sport athlete (also competing in soccer) averaged 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game during her junior year, earning all-tournament and all-conference honors. O’Gorman Head Coach Kent Kolsrud praised Terveen’s competitiveness: “Sydney is a tremendous competitor who plays her best in big games…Her athleticism, competitive spirit and skill level should be a great asset to the women’s basketball team at Omaha.” Sanford Sports AAU coach Caleb Luckow added, “Sydney is the epitome of a winner…Omaha is getting a great piece in building their foundation and culture!” Carey highlighted Terveen’s ability to make winning plays, shoot the basketball, and defend.
