Storm Claudia brings Heavy Rain and Storms to Costa del Sol, Malaga – Yellow Alert Issued
Malaga, Spain – A yellow weather warning is in effect for Malaga province, including teh Axarquia area, Malaga city, western Costa del Sol, Guadalhorce valley, and the Serranía de Ronda, as Storm Claudia brings the threat of “persistent” heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to the region. the alert,activated by Spain’s state meteorological agency Aemet for Friday,November 14th,forecasts up to 20mm of rain within one hour and a potential accumulation of 60mm over 12 hours.
The broader forecast for mainland Spain indicates heavy and persistent rainfall continuing through Thursday and tommorow, with Friday’s conditions predicting rainfall across the central system mountain range, western Galicia, western Andalucía, and the pyrenees. Aemet anticipates locally heavy and torrential downpours in Andalucía, and occasional heavy showers in the north-east.
While minimum temperatures are not expected to change, Aemet forecasts falling maximum temperatures, particularly in the eastern interior of andalucía. Moderate westerly winds are expected along the coast, shifting to light to moderate southerly winds inland.
Storm Claudia is expected to remain largely stationary, bringing cloudy skies and rainfall to most of mainland Spain on Friday, though the extreme east and south-east are less likely to be affected. The heaviest accumulations are predicted in western Galicia and Andalucía, the Pyrenees, south of the Cantabrian mountain range, and the Central System.Occasional thunderstorms are also possible in the extreme west and north-east, with particularly heavy downpours anticipated in western Andalucía. Local increases in minimum temperatures are expected in the Ebro valley and extending to the Balearic Islands.
