Arizona Delegation calls on President Trump for Disaster Relief Following Severe Flooding
PHOENIX – Arizona’s congressional delegation – Representatives Yassamin Ansari, Greg Stanton, Eli Crane, and david Schweikert, alongside Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben gallego – have jointly appealed to President Donald trump to approve a Major Disaster Declaration for Gila and Mohave Counties. The request follows devastating flooding that impacted the region between September 25-27, 2025.
The lawmakers detailed the extent of the damage in a letter to the president, citing 6 to 10 inches of rainfall within 48 hours from a stalled monsoon system. This led to widespread flash flooding and debris flows, inundating neighborhoods, rendering roads impassable, and damaging critical infrastructure.
Preliminary damage assessments, conducted by FEMA,the State of Arizona, and local officials, reveal critically important impact: 312 homes were damaged (64 destroyed,89 with major damage, and 159 with minor to affected-level damage). Over 180 residents required emergency shelter or temporary lodging, and roughly 74 households lacked insurance coverage. Damage also extended to key transportation routes, including portions of U.S. Highway 60, State Route 77, and numerous county roads.
“Emergency protective measures were required to coordinate lifesaving efforts, rescue victims, recovery of deceased persons, stabilize slopes, clear debris, restore access for emergency services, and temporarily restore utilities,” the delegation wrote. “In total, preliminary estimates show losses at $33,579,081.”
the Arizona lawmakers urged the President to approve the disaster declaration “in accordance with all laws, rules, regulations, and agency policies” to ensure affected communities receive necessary recovery resources.
