Renard Reaches Century of Champions League Wins as lyon Dominates Wolfsburg, 2-0
LYON, FRANCE – November 21, 2023 – Wendie Renard made history tonight, becoming the first player to reach 100 victories in the Women’s Champions League as Olympique Lyonnais defeated Wolfsburg 2-0 at Groupama Stadium. The win extends Lyon‘s unbeaten run in group stage/league stage matches to 19 (15 wins, 4 draws) and maintains their perfect record in this season’s competition, following previous victories against Arsenal (2-1) and Sankt Polten (3-0).
Lyon’s starting eleven featured Endler, Tarciane, Renard, Engen, Bacha, heaps, Shrader, Dumornay, Brand, Hegerberg, and Diani. wolfsburg countered with Johannes,Linder,Dijkstra,Küver,Levels,Peddermors,Minge,Kielland,Zicai,Popp,and Beerensteyn.
The match saw Jule Brand return to face her former club, having transferred to Lyon this summer. “It’s true that there is a real difference.Wolfsburg is a bit like a village, whereas here, in Lyon, the city is much bigger, more lively, with a lot more things happening,” Brand stated at a pre-match press conference. “it’s very special to meet his former club, where I spent three great years. when I played against Lyon, it was always very arduous matches between two great teams.”

Wolfsburg entered the match having previously defeated PSG 4-0 and Valerenga 2-1 in the new Champions League format. However, Lyon proved too strong on home turf, continuing a six-match winning streak against the German side.
