ECCO Presents a Dynamic Concert Season
The Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) is gearing up for a compelling concert season, showcasing both familiar masterpieces and lesser-known gems. This season promises a journey through diverse musical landscapes, highlighting the talents of both celebrated composers and rising stars.
one highlight will be a performance featuring music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His opera, The Marriage of Figaro, initially faced political scrutiny, requiring revisions by court poet Lorenzo Da Ponte. The opera’s overture, a vibrant and instantly recognizable piece in D major, has become a cultural touchstone, appearing in films like The King’s Speech, Pride and Prejudice (1995), and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
The program also features the work of Juan Crisotomo Arriaga (1806-1826), a Spanish composer often called “The Spanish Mozart” due to his shared birthday and prodigious talent. Arriaga’s Symphony in D, composed during his short life, uniquely blends major and minor keys and incorporates Basque musical influences, pioneering a nationalistic style in 19th-century music. Despite his tragically early death at age nineteen, Arriaga left a lasting impact.
Performing alongside ECCO will be acclaimed violinist Christine Harada Li. Dr.Li boasts an extraordinary international career as a performer, educator, and arts leader, having performed across the globe with numerous orchestras and at prestigious music festivals. She is also a dedicated chamber musician, frequently performing with the Koinonia Trio, and has held leadership positions within several arts organizations.Dr. Li’s extensive education includes degrees from the University of Michigan and the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover, Germany.
