Rapido Rider Arrested in Bengaluru for Alleged Sexual Harassment
Bengaluru, Karnataka – A 28-year-old Rapido bike taxi driver, identified as Lokesh, was arrested by the Wilson Garden police on Thursday following a complaint of sexual harassment during a ride.the arrest comes after a video of the alleged incident went viral online, prompting police intervention.
The complainant reported booking a rapido ride from Church Street to her paying guest accommodation around 4 pm on Thursday. During the journey, she alleges the rider inappropriately touched her legs. Fearing for her safety and unfamiliar with the city, the woman recorded the incident on her phone without instantly confronting the driver or requesting to be let off. Police tracked Lokesh through details provided by the Rapido platform.
According to police officials, the wilson Garden police and their social media monitoring team identified the viral video and contacted the victim, securing a written complaint and registering a First Data Report (FIR) before making the arrest. Lokesh, a resident of Muniyappa Layout in Ullala, is currently in custody.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if lokesh has been involved in similar offenses.
