Little Village Shooting: Shots Fired at⁣ Border Patrol Agents During Chicago Immigration Operation

Shots ⁣were fired at Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents during an immigration enforcement operation in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood today, officials confirmed.‌ The incident occurred near 26th⁢ Street and Kedzie Avenue, prompting⁤ a response from ⁤the Chicago Police Department. No injuries⁤ were reported.

The shooting⁤ underscores⁤ a concerning trend of escalating violence ​and obstruction faced by ⁢federal law enforcement​ during immigration operations in ‌the city. DHS⁢ reports an ⁤increase in assaults and ‍interference over the ‌past two months, raising safety concerns for agents and prompting calls for an end to​ the aggression.

According to DHS, an unknown male driving ​a black Jeep discharged a ⁣firearm at the agents ‌before fleeing the scene. Concurrently, “an unknown number ⁤of agitators” ‌targeted Border Patrol vehicles with a paint can and ⁣bricks. Chicago police officers responded to a report of shots ⁣fired and ‍secured the area,but the alleged ⁤shooter remains‌ at large.

CPD officials confirmed their ​response to ABC7 chicago, stating⁤ there‍ were no ⁤reports of anyone struck by gunfire.

DHS stated, “This incident is ‌not isolated and reflects a growing and hazardous trend of ⁤violence and obstruction… These confrontations ​highlight the dangers our agents face daily and the⁣ escalating aggression toward ‍law enforcement. The violence must end.”
