Little Village Shooting: Shots Fired at Border Patrol Agents During Chicago Immigration Operation
Shots were fired at Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents during an immigration enforcement operation in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood today, officials confirmed. The incident occurred near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue, prompting a response from the Chicago Police Department. No injuries were reported.
The shooting underscores a concerning trend of escalating violence and obstruction faced by federal law enforcement during immigration operations in the city. DHS reports an increase in assaults and interference over the past two months, raising safety concerns for agents and prompting calls for an end to the aggression.
According to DHS, an unknown male driving a black Jeep discharged a firearm at the agents before fleeing the scene. Concurrently, “an unknown number of agitators” targeted Border Patrol vehicles with a paint can and bricks. Chicago police officers responded to a report of shots fired and secured the area,but the alleged shooter remains at large.
CPD officials confirmed their response to ABC7 chicago, stating there were no reports of anyone struck by gunfire.
DHS stated, “This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and hazardous trend of violence and obstruction… These confrontations highlight the dangers our agents face daily and the escalating aggression toward law enforcement. The violence must end.”
