Ukrainian Strikes Target Russian Oil Facilities as Moscow Reports Massive Drone Defense
Ukrainian attacks intensified on Russian oil and gas infrastructure overnight, coinciding with a large-scale Russian drone and missile assault on Ukraine that left at least two dead and triggered widespread power outages.
According to Ukrainian sources, the strikes on Russia included a hit on an oil refinery in the Volgograd region, causing a fire. The attacks came in response to ongoing russian targeting of Ukrainian energy facilities as winter approaches.
Moscow’s Ministry of defense reported destroying 79 drones over ten regions of Russia during the night. Simultaneously, Russia launched a sweeping attack on Ukraine, reportedly involving over 450 drones and 45 missiles, hitting nearly 30 targets, according to President volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky has called for stricter international sanctions in response.
The Ukrainian attacks caused emergency blackouts in Kyiv and meaningful supply disruptions in Kharkiv, with damage also reported to energy facilities in the Odessa region. In Ukraine, kremenchuk was left without electricity, water, and partial heating, while two people were killed and 12 injured in Dnipro. Naftogaz reported this as the ninth strike against Ukraine’s civilian gas system since October, resulting in one worker injury.
