Loraloma,Texas – A $5 million investment has transformed 270 acres of rolling Texas terrain into a Scottish-style links golf course, offering an exclusive experience for a limited number of members. Loraloma, designed by renowned golf course architect McLay Kidd, officially opened this fall, bringing a unique style of play rarely found in the state.
The project, driven by a desire to create a world-class golf destination, represents a significant financial commitment and a bold vision for the future of golf in Texas. Membership at Loraloma includes the chance to build a custom home overlooking the course, with plots currently for sale. The course aims to deliver a challenging yet playful experience, reminiscent of classic links courses found in Scotland, and is currently open only to members.
McLay Kidd intentionally designed several holes to encourage creative play and memorable moments. the par-3 9th hole, measuring just 100 yards from forward tees, features a dramatic slope allowing players to putt from the tee. A shared double-green for the 2nd and 13th holes provides opportunities for exceptionally long putts - one player reportedly sank a 150-foot putt from near the 13th pin to the 2nd hole.
The course incorporates elements of customary links golf, with undulating fairways and strategically placed hazards. The 17th is a 182-yard par 3 with a bowl-shaped green designed to funnel shots toward the pin, while the 18th is a challenging double-dogleg par-5 requiring precise tee shots and approaches. Loraloma’s layout stretches to 7,412 yards from the championship tees, but offers multiple tee boxes to accommodate all skill levels.
“We got creative here and it paid off,” said McLay Kidd. “Just a stunning effort from the folks on site, who stayed with the vision and worked so hard to deliver a special course. I couldn’t be more proud.”
