Austin Students Showcase Robotics Skills in Advanced Competition
AUSTIN,TX – High school students are putting thier engineering prowess to the test this weekend at St. Michael’s Academy, competing in an advanced robotics challenge. The event, hosted by the Austin Vintage Robotics (AVR) institution, draws teams from across the region to design, build, and operate complex robots.
The competition reflects a growing trend in STEM education, with more than 35% of U.S. high schools offering robotics programs as of 2023, according to market research from Global Growth Insights. This surge in robotics education aims to equip students with critical skills for future careers in engineering, technology, and related fields.The stakes are high as students vie for a spot in next week’s competition in Haslet, Texas, and potentially launch themselves toward future success.
Teams like the Falcon Fighters, led by Henry Hubbard and William Radke, are participating in four rounds of challenges, demonstrating their ability to problem-solve and innovate. Radke, who aspires to be an electrical engineer, expressed his passion for the field, stating, “I just love solving issues that people deem as super challenging.”
St. Michael’s Academy is hosting the competition for the second consecutive year. The AVR will hold a second competition next week in Haslet, Texas, providing additional opportunities for students to showcase their skills.
