Hautes-Pyrénées ‌Sports ​Clubs Compete for National⁢ “Sport and Education” ‌Award

TARBES, Hautes-pyrénées – Local sports ‍clubs in the Hautes-Pyrénées department are vying for national recognition in the “Sport and Education” category of the Sommets du Sport awards, a competition celebrating initiatives that blend athletic achievement with ⁢educational and social impact. The awards⁣ spotlight organizations demonstrating exceptional commitment to inclusivity and youth⁢ development through sport. ⁤This year’s competition is particularly significant for the CD Handisport 65, whose project “What about sport?” recently⁣ secured funding as one of ten ‍winners of Intersport ​and Ulule’s “MonProjetSportif” initiative.⁢

“What about sport?” focuses ⁢on providing‌ access to sports for young people with ⁤motor or sensory disabilities‍ in the Hautes-Pyrénées.The⁤ project aims to⁣ connect youth with local clubs – offering opportunities in boccia, cycling,⁤ golf, horse riding, climbing, ⁣paragliding, Basque pelota, open nature activities, diving, blowgun, skiing, and tennis – and facilitate ‌their ‌integration into regular sports⁤ practice. Weekly practice slots, ofen in partnership with local clubs, encourage regular physical activity, promote understanding of sports benefits and ⁣community rules, and foster ⁢interaction between disabled and able-bodied youth.

Beyond introductory courses and regular practice, CD Handisport 65 supports athletes ‍aspiring to‌ compete in the Regional and National Games of the Future Handisport, providing a ⁤festive and pleasant competitive ‍surroundings. The organization also hosts themed family days to showcase the abilities of young athletes and promotes⁤ inclusive ⁢events⁢ with able-bodied peers to break down barriers.

The ultimate goal is to enable young people ⁤with disabilities to participate in ⁤sporting activities, ⁢including⁤ regional competitions,‌ with sights set on the National Games in 2026.
