WhatsApp Now available on apple Watch with Native App
Cupertino, CA – november 5, 2023 – WhatsApp users can now access the messaging platform directly on their apple Watch with the release of a dedicated app, ending years of reliance on workarounds and iPhone mirroring. The app, available for download via the Watch App Store, allows users to view and respond to messages, receive call notifications, and utilize a range of features directly from their wrist.
For years,Apple Watch users have been limited to receiving WhatsApp notifications that simply mirrored their iPhone. this new native app marks a significant step towards full integration, offering increased convenience and a more streamlined experience for managing conversations on the go. The update addresses a long-standing request from users seeking a more discreet and efficient way to stay connected without constantly reaching for their smartphones. Meta, WhatsAppS parent company, indicated this is the first step in a series of planned improvements for the Apple Watch platform.
The app supports key features including reading and replying to messages, viewing full message content – even lengthy ones - sending and receiving voice messages, reacting to messages with emojis, and viewing media files like images and stickers. Users can also see more of their chat history directly on the watch face.
while the app offers enhanced functionality, some limitations remain. Users cannot initiate new chats or send images directly from the watch, and certain operations may require an active connection to the iPhone.
For those who haven’t yet received the update, WhatsApp offers a temporary solution: enabling “Duplicate alerts from iPhone” within the Watch app’s Notifications section.
According to meta, all calls and messages exchanged through the WhatsApp apple Watch app remain protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring user privacy and security. “This is just the beginning to further improve the WhatsApp experience on your Apple Watch,” a Meta representative stated. “we look forward to offering more useful features for Apple Watch users in the future.”
