Venezuela: Journalist Joan Camargo Freed After Forced Disappearance

Caracas, ​Venezuela ​- ‌Journalist‍ Joan Camargo⁢ has been released⁤ after being missing for five days, the National Union⁤ of Press Workers (SNTP) reported ‍november 4, 2025.Camargo disappeared on Thursday after ⁤being “intercepted by ‌people dressed⁢ in black,” according to his ⁤family, who‍ filed an appeal for habeas corpus ​with Venezuelan courts on Sunday seeking information about his whereabouts.‌

The ​SNTP published an image ‌of⁣ Camargo reunited with family members but‌ has not ‍released details regarding his forced disappearance. The union is demanding ⁢a prompt⁤ investigation and “urgent ‌sanctions” for those responsible for the more‍ than 100 hours Camargo was missing.

“After 5 days missing, journalist ⁢Joan Camargo regained his freedom ‌#04Nov,” the SNTP wrote on ⁣its X account.

The case​ sparked concern among human rights organizations, including Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón, which on ⁤Monday warned of a rise​ in arrests in Venezuela⁣ “without ⁤sufficient public information,” creating “a scenario of ‌legal insecurity and prolonged anguish.”
