Texas Longhorns to Seek Answers from SEC After Questionable Officiating
AUSTIN,TX – Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian announced the program will submit multiple plays from Saturday’s win to the Southeastern Conference for review, citing concerns over officiating decisions. This marks the second consecutive week Sarkisian has indicated the team will formally request the SEC examine potential errors made by game officials.
The concerns stem from several calls during the game, including a two-point conversion attempt, a potential pass interference penalty, and a disputed offsides call on third down. “I got to turn in the play to emmett Mosley that gets reviewed for a catch, some would argue was pass interference,” Sarkisian saeid. “I got to get a decision on did they jump off sides on third down, which got called on us. Some of those calls were pretty clear to me,but I got to get an clarification on why those calls didn’t go our way.” The move comes amid growing frustration with officiating, highlighted by fan reactions and a previous incident involving a concussion sustained by quarterback Arch Manning against Mississippi State.
The SEC review process is standard procedure for teams questioning officiating, allowing for evaluation and potential clarification of rulings. While Sarkisian acknowledged the need to address the calls,he also emphasized the importance of maintaining focus during the game. “I felt like myself included, we got, I think, too caught up in the officiating,” he stated. “So I think it’s a lesson learned about poise and composure, controlling what you can control, and we can’t control the calls. We got to focus on the next play.”
Fan discontent was visible as the officiating crew left the field, with some delivering boos and insults. Despite the controversial calls, Texas secured a win, but the issues raise questions about consistency and accuracy in officiating as the Longhorns prepare for a crucial upcoming matchup.
Texas will use its bye week to receive feedback from the SEC and prepare for a road game against the Georgia Bulldogs on November 15.The outcome of the SEC review could influence future officiating assignments and possibly lead to adjustments in game management protocols.
