Apple to Open Apple Intelligence Platform to Third-Party AI Services
CUPERTINO,CA – June 13,2024 – Apple plans to expand its Apple Intelligence platform beyond its initial integration with ChatGPT,opening it to additional third-party artificial intelligence services. The move, announced during a recent investor call with CEO Tim Cook, aims to bolster functionality and address growing user expectations in a competitive market dominated by Android devices.
Currently available on the latest iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, Apple Intelligence will see further diversification with the potential onboarding of partners over time, according to Cook: “our intention is to onboard more partners over time.” Discussions are reportedly underway with Google regarding integration of its Gemini AI and Anthropic’s Claude system, with evidence of interoperability work appearing in the latest macOS tahoe 26.1 beta.
The expansion comes as Apple prepares a significant update to Siri, anticipated for 2026. While no firm date has been set, rumors suggest a potential release with iOS 26.4 next spring. This revamped version of Siri, often referred to as ”Siri 2.0,” is intended to address perceived delays in Apple’s AI capabilities compared to competitors like Google’s Pixel and Samsung’s Galaxy series.
Opening the platform offers several benefits for users, including simplified access to preferred AI tools within the Apple ecosystem, feature parity with Android devices, and a more customizable AI experience. Apple has previously highlighted commitments to features like “personal context” management and on-screen contextual recognition, which users will be watching for in future updates.
