MERIP to Host Evening Honoring Late Co-founder Joe Stork in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. ‍ – The Middle East⁤ Research and Data Project (MERIP) will host a special live event on November​ 22nd to honor the memory of Joe Stork, its co-founder and long-time editor, who passed away last year. The event will take place from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm⁤ at Busboys and Poets, located at 450 K Street⁣ in Washington, D.C.

The gathering will provide an possibility for friends, ⁤colleagues, and comrades to celebrate Stork’s life and contributions through an evening of food,⁤ drink, and ⁤conversation. Joost Hiltermann will serve ‌as the Master of Ceremonies.

Reflections ⁤on Stork’s work and ⁣legacy ⁣will be‌ shared by frequent MERIP contributors including Aslı Bâli,Joel Beinin,Zachary Lockman,Sarah Leah Whitson,Lisa Hajjar,and Rick Reinhard. Musical⁣ accompaniment will be ​provided by Frank Haltiwanger,a friend and collaborator of the late editor.

The event is strategically scheduled to coincide with the Middle East Studies association’s annual meeting, welcoming‌ attendees from across the‌ country and beyond. ⁢Light refreshments will be available, and attendance is free.⁤ MERIP encourages attendees to ‌ RSVP ​to assist with event planning and to consider making a donation ‌ to help offset event costs.
