Sunnyvale‌ Restaurant Revives Centuries-Old Turkish Social Dining Tradition

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – A new restaurant in sunnyvale ‍is bringing the vibrant, communal spirit of the turkish meyhane-a conventional gathering place centered around food, drink, and conversation-to Silicon Valley. Meyhouse Restaurant, located on‌ South Murphy⁢ Avenue, aims to offer diners more than just a meal, but‍ an immersive ⁣cultural experience.

Owner and chef Murat Altinsoy opened Meyhouse to share the rich culinary and social traditions of his homeland. the meyhane tradition, ⁤dating back centuries, emphasizes shared plates (meze) and a leisurely pace, fostering connection and conviviality. Altinsoy hopes to recreate that atmosphere for a local audience, offering a respite from the fast-paced tech culture of the region and a taste⁣ of authentic Turkish hospitality. The restaurant’s opening reflects a growing demand for diverse culinary‌ experiences in the South Bay, and a desire for spaces that prioritize community and connection.

Meyhouse’s menu features a wide array of Turkish ‍specialties, from ‌flavorful kebabs and fresh seafood to vegetarian options and traditional dips. Altinsoy emphasizes the importance of fresh, high-quality ingredients and time-honored recipes. “Every dish tells a story, every night is an experience and every guest becomes part ‍of our rich Turkish dining tradition,” he told San José Spotlight.

Desserts are a highlight, with options like Kunefe-a crispy shredded phyllo dough pastry filled with mozzarella-and Damla Sakizi ice cream, flavored with mastic.Altinsoy recommends pairing the two for a delightful contrast of textures and flavors: the ⁤crunch of the phyllo and the creaminess of the cheese complementing‍ the⁢ honey notes of the ice⁣ cream.

Meyhouse is⁤ located at 187 S. Murphy Ave. in Sunnyvale and is open Sunday through Thursday from 11:45 a.m.to 2 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 ⁣to 10 p.m. More information can be found on their website at https://www.meyhouserestaurant.com/ and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/meyhouserestaurant/?hl=en.
