Mystery Man Captivates Internet After Louvre jewel Heist
Paris, France – As the investigation continues into the daring theft of jewels valued at over 960 million kroner from the Louvre Museum, an enigmatic figure captured in a photograph outside the museum has become a viral sensation. French police announced this week they’ve discovered DNA traces on a helmet and glove believed too be left by the thieves, according to Swedish broadcaster SVT.
The audacious heist has sparked widespread fascination and a flurry of online theories.though, it’s a photograph of a sharply dressed young man – sporting a coat, blazer, waistcoat, tie, and fedora – that has particularly captured the public’s imagination.
The image, initially shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @msmelchen, quickly circulated with speculation that the man was a detective involved in the case. Some even suggested the image was AI-generated, citing the man’s seemingly out-of-place appearance.
Associated Press photographer Thibault Camus, who took the photo, has confirmed its authenticity. He believes the man is highly likely not an investigator. “He might have been a tourist,or a person living in Paris who planned to visit the Louvre that morning,” Camus stated. “The guy is realy young, maybe 18-19 years old, so I don’t think he’s the real investigator.”
Despite Camus’ assessment, the man’s identity remains unknown. When questioned by AP, the Paris prosecutor’s office offered a playful response via email: “We’d rather keep the mystery alive ;).” France24 reported on the exchange.
