Michael Mann’s ‘Heat 2’ Nabs Tax Credits to Shoot in California

los Angeles, CA – ‌November 21, ⁤2023 – Michael⁣ MannS ‍highly anticipated sequel, Heat 2,​ is set to film 47 days in the Los Angeles region after receiving tax credits through the California Film Incentive program, according to an announcement⁢ today. The project is among ⁣52⁢ films selected to receive credits, marking the highest number of titles chosen in a single round of incentives.

The news arrives as Los Angeles film production reached an all-time low during the July-September period,​ according to FilmLA. The California Film Incentive program is designed to ⁣bring productions back to the​ state,with director Jake Kasdan ‍(Jumanji) stating,”I ⁣have long looked forward to the day when the California ⁤Film Incentive would help us​ bring movies ‌like this one back ‍home – and now that it‌ does,I am so grateful that ours ⁢will be among⁤ the first to take advantage of‍ the ‌new program.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment chief executive Tom Rothman added, “The​ resultant work will bring jobs ⁤and revenue into the‌ state⁤ at a much needed time and ⁤will help‌ the filmmakers make the vrey ‌best film ​possible.”

Beyond Heat 2, 42 self-reliant titles with budgets under $10 million will​ also benefit from‍ the subsidies, including⁢ Epiphany (starring Bill Murray and Kristen Wiig), ⁣ The Incredible Heist of Hallelujah Jones, Sun Baked, A Tree is Blue, and Nightwatching.

Ellen goldsmith-Vein,a producer on Epiphany and Chair‌ of Mayor Karen Bass’ Entertainment industry Council,emphasized the ‌importance of state support ⁤for filmmakers,saying,”California has been home to my career from ⁣the start,and being‍ able to ​make Epiphany here means I get to work with the best crews in the business while keeping jobs in my ⁤community.”

A record 51 films were initially approved for credits in March. The current round of incentives is projected to⁢ generate 511 days of ⁢filming outside of the Los‍ Angeles region, taking advantage of additional incentives offered in those areas.

California⁤ Film Commission Executive Director Colleen Bell stated, ⁤”This round of awards demonstrates the‍ outstanding scope of our program. ​We are welcoming projects from major⁣ franchises to independent‌ films‌ led‍ by visionary artists…California’s film industry ‍is not just rebounding,it’s redefining ⁣what’s possible.”
