“The Walking Dead” Star Norman Reedus Reveals Season 4 Focuses on DarylS Traumatic Past, Addresses Fan Theories
Norman Reedus discussed the ongoing final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, revealing a significant focus on exploring Daryl’s arduous childhood and the abuse he endured with his brother, Merle (Michael Rooker). Reedus emphasized the importance of slowing down to examine Daryl’s pre-apocalypse life, noting that “there was never a soft point for him.” He characterized Daryl’s recent openness with Carol as “huge progress” from his initial introduction in the series.
The fourth season is currently in production, with a particular episode heavily focused on these themes. Reedus also addressed a popular fan theory regarding a potential romantic relationship between Daryl and Carol, confirming through writer David Zabel that the characters have “never hooked up,” establishing it as canon. The conversation also touched upon a running gag within the show-a can of hot dogs-which remains uneaten and potentially significant for the final season, despite Reedus’s personal aversion to the prop.
Reedus expressed his relief that Zabel avoids writing based on social media trends, stating, “There was a time when some peopel might have written for the show who would read Twitter, and then it was like they were writing for Twitter.” He jokingly expressed his distaste for the hot dog prop, even suggesting a potential botulism risk due to its dented can.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season three is currently streaming on AMC+.
