Semenistaja Claims Catalan W100 Title, Set to Enter WTA Top 100
Barcelona, Spain – Latvian tennis player Daniela Semenistaja secured her 18th career final victory, triumphing over Poland’s Katarzyna Klimovičova at the W100 Barcelona tournament on Sunday. Semenistaja won a hard-fought match 7-5, 7-6(4) after a 2 hour and 7 minute battle. the win propels Semenistaja into the WTA top 100 rankings for the first time in her career, moving her to 91st in the unofficial rankings.
This victory marks Semenistaja’s second professional triumph over Klimovičova, following a win in the US Open qualification rounds (6-3, 7-6(0)). The Catalan W100 title adds to Semenistaja’s remarkable record in finals,now standing at 18-4,substantially contrasting with Klimovičova’s 6-7 record.The win also builds on Semenistaja’s momentum from April, when she claimed the Labisbala “WTA 125″ title.
The first set saw a closely contested match, with Semenistaja initially trailing before rallying to win 7-5. After securing an early break in the second set (2:1), Semenistaja faced challenges holding serve, falling behind 2-2 and 3-5. Though, she battled back to level the set at 5-5, ultimately forcing a tiebreak wich she won 7-6(4).
Throughout the match, Semenistaja demonstrated superior first serve success (62% vs. 50%) and a slight edge in total points won (84:78). Break point conversion also favored the Latvian player,9/18 compared to Klimovičova’s 9/21.
Semenistaja receives $15,239 and 100 WTA points for the championship, while Klimovičova earns $8,147 and 65 points as the runner-up. Semenistaja will next compete in the Rovereto “WTA 125” tournament in northern Italy.
