CALIFORNIA, PA (oct. 17) – The California University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat against West Virginia Wesleyan Friday afternoon at Roadman Park, concluding their fall season.
The Bobcats secured the doubles point with wins at the first and third positions, but Cal U battled back in singles play. Senior Diletta Maria Mungo and sophomore Garance Laforet provided a luminous spot, achieving a 6-3 victory at second doubles – completing an undefeated 6-0 fall campaign as a pairing. Mungo later dominated at second singles, winning 6-1, 6-1, while Laforet secured a 6-3, 6-0 win at the fourth slot.
Ultimately, West Virginia Wesleyan clinched the match victory with a win at third singles. Senior Teddy Isherwood delivered a strong performance at first singles, overcoming Dominique Jansen van Vuuren – an All-MEC selection from the previous spring – with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 result.
California finishes its fall season with a 3-3 overall record, having experienced two 4-3 losses in the past week. The Vulcans will now enter their off-season before resuming competition next semester.
