Britney Spears Condemns Exploitation as Ex-Husband’s Memoir Details Custody Battle
Los Angeles, CA – Britney Spears has publicly criticized individuals she believes are capitalizing on her personal struggles following the release of excerpts from her ex-husband, Kevin Federline‘s, forthcoming memoir. The excerpts detail the tumultuous period surrounding their divorce and the subsequent loss of custody of their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Spears, who was under a controversial conservatorship for 14 years until its termination in November 2021, expressed her frustration with those who “profit off my pain,” though she did not directly name Federline in her statement. The release of the memoir coincides with heightened public interest in spears’s life following the end of the conservatorship and the publication of her own memoir in 2023, in which she reflected on the custody battle.
Federline was granted full physical custody of the boys following the divorce. He and his wife have since relocated the sons to Hawaii. In his memoir, Federline argues that the end of Spears’s conservatorship has negatively impacted their children, stating, “Now more than ever, [our children] need your support.I’ve been their buffer for years, but now it’s bigger than me. It’s time to sound the alarm.”
Spears previously wrote in her own memoir that if she had been allowed to live her life, she believes she “would’ve followed my heart and come out of this the right way and worked it out” regarding the initial loss of custody.
the conservatorship, which controlled both Spears’s finances and personal well-being, was terminated after 13 years, fueled by the #FreeBritneyMovement.During a 2021 court hearing, Spears stated, “I just want my life back…I deserve to have a life. I’ve worked my whole life. I deserve to have a two- to three-year break and just, you know, do what I want to do…I deserve to have the same rights as anybody does, by having a child, a family, any of those things, and more so.”
