Texas Braces for Significant Temperature Drop as Cold Front Sweeps Across the State
A cold air mass is set to bring markedly cooler temperatures to parts of Texas this weekend, particularly in the Panhandle and western regions. While much of the state has experienced lingering summer heat, the approaching front promises a shift towards more typical October conditions.
The most significant temperature declines will be felt in the northern part of the state. In Amarillo, highs are forecast to reach 81°F (27.2°C) during the week, but lows will plummet to 47°F (8.3°C) on Friday night and 43°F (6.1°C) on Saturday night. Further north in Dalhart, daytime temperatures will be around 73°F (22.7°C), with lows dropping to 42°F (5.5°C) on Friday and 38°F (3.3°C) on Saturday. Similar conditions are expected in Sunray.
These temperatures represent a typical October chill, though not yet indicative of winter conditions. The thermal drop will be most pronounced in rural areas due to the influence of north winds and low humidity.
Central and southern Texas will largely escape the cold front’s impact. The system is expected to weaken as it moves southward, stopping short of cities like Austin and San Antonio. Forecasts for these areas indicate daily highs near 91°F (33°C) and lows around 68°F (20°C).
The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that atmospheric conditions in south Texas will remain dry and stable with a low probability of rain throughout the weekend. Meteorologists do not anticipate the need for warmer clothing untill the end of October, when more considerable frontal systems are predicted to arrive.
