Ricky Hatton, Former Boxing Champion, Dies by Suicide
Stockport Coroner’s Court confirmed today that former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton died by suicide. The provisional cause of death was hanging.
Hatton’s manager, Paul Speak, discovered the 45-year-old unresponsive at his home on September 14th when he arrived to transport him to Manchester Airport for a flight to Dubai.Hatton was scheduled to travel to Dubai in preparation for a planned boxing match in december, marking a return to the ring 13 years after his last professional fight.
Family members reported seeing hatton on September 12th, stating he appeared to be in good spirits. His absence from a scheduled event the following day raised initial concerns.
Throughout his celebrated career, Hatton, nicknamed “The Hitman,” held light welterweight and welterweight titles and faced prominent opponents including Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
