WhatsApp Gains Granular Control over Animations: Emojis, Stickers & GIFs
WhatsApp is rolling out new settings that give users unprecedented control over animations within chats, offering a cleaner, more personalized, and accessible experience. These updates allow users to disable animations for emojis, stickers, and GIFs individually, catering to diverse preferences and needs.
A cleaner chat View with Static Emojis
Users can now opt to disable animated emojis, reverting them to standard, static Apple emojis. This provides a consistent visual experience and reduces unnecessary movement on the screen,creating a more distraction-free chat environment.
manage Animated Stickers for a smoother Experience
The new functionality extends to animated stickers. Disabling sticker animations will display only the first frame of the sticker,preventing looping animations and a visually busy conversation. Importantly,favorite stickers will retain their animated form,allowing users to enjoy their preferred motion while maintaining control over the overall chat experience. Re-enabling animations will instantly restore motion to favorite stickers.
Turn Off GIF Animations for More Control
Users can also disable automatic GIF playback, displaying GIFs as static previews. Tapping the GIF will then initiate the animation, giving users complete control over when and how dynamic content plays. This saves data and attention, offering a quieter chat experience.

These controls are a significant step towards accessibility. Users sensitive to motion or experiencing visual discomfort can now minimize distracting animations.
