Asylum Seeker Accused in Hotel WorkerS Stabbing Death Appeared ‘Clearly Excited’ After Attack, Court Hears
Walsall, UK – A 19-year-old asylum seeker, Deng Chol Majek, is on trial accused of the murder of Rhiannon Skye whyte, a 27-year-old hotel worker, at Wolverhampton Crown Court.Prosecutors allege Majek stabbed Whyte 23 times with a screwdriver and left her to die at Bescot Stadium railway station in walsall on October 20th of last year.
The court heard that Majek, a Sudanese national residing at the Park Inn hotel where Whyte worked, followed the victim after her 11pm shift. Michelle Heeley KC, the prosecutor, told the jury that Majek “clearly excited about what he had done” after the attack. Whyte was discovered by a train guard on the platform after a friend overheard her screaming during a phone call.
Evidence presented to the court includes CCTV footage identifying Majek through his distinctive clothing. Police recovered items from his hotel room, including a jacket, ring, and sandals bearing Whyte’s blood. Forensic analysis revealed Whyte’s DNA under Majek’s fingernails, suggesting she attempted to defend herself.
Eleven of the 23 stab wounds penetrated whyte’s skull, with one causing fatal damage to her brain stem. Heeley stated, “He left her bleeding to death and then casually went back to his hotel. We say you can be sure he is guilty of murder.”
The motive for the attack remains unclear.Witnesses reported seeing Majek staring at Whyte and a colleague earlier in the evening, but no specific conflict was recalled.
Majek denies the charges of murder and possessing an offensive weapon. The trial is ongoing. Whyte had only been employed at the Park Inn hotel for three months prior to her death.
