Bluepoint Games Job Listing Sparks New Round of Remake Speculation

February 29, 2024 – A⁣ new job listing from Bluepoint Games, the studio behind⁣ acclaimed remakes ⁣of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, is fueling speculation about its next project. The listing, for a Senior Rendering Engineer, specifically mentions ⁢experience with “complex scene rendering” and ⁣”third-person action games,” prompting renewed discussion ‌about potential remakes, notably Bloodborne.

Bluepoint ⁢games gained prominence with its 2018 PlayStation 4 remake of‌ Shadow of the Colossus. This success⁤ was followed by the 2020 PlayStation 5 remake of FromSoftware’s‍ Demon’s Souls, released as a launch title for‌ the ⁢console. Shortly after, in 2021, Sony ‍acquired‍ bluepoint Games, integrating it into⁣ PlayStation⁣ Studios.

Since joining PlayStation Studios, Bluepoint has‌ remained relatively quiet about its ongoing projects. In 2024, reports ⁤indicated the studio was developing an original title. However,⁣ earlier this year, Sony cancelled two live-service games, one of ⁤which⁤ was being developed by Bluepoint ⁢and reportedly set within the God ⁣of War universe.

The cancellation has led to increased speculation about a return to the remake format. Rumors ‌of a remake of the original God of War trilogy have circulated for some time.‍ However, the possibility of a Bloodborne remake remains a strong contender among fans.

FromSoftware’s ‌Hidetaka Miyazaki previously told Eurogamer that remakes and remasters can benefit from advancements in hardware. “I think having new hardware is definately ⁣a part ⁤of what gives these remakes value,” he said. “Things you weren’t able to achieve on previous generations of hardware… sometimes makes it possible.” He also emphasized the importance of accessibility, stating,”modern hardware also allows more ⁣players to appreciate all the games.”

Last year,Sony became the largest shareholder in Kadokawa Corporation,FromSoftware’s parent company, primarily to acquire anime ‍rights. This move has prompted questions about potential collaborations, including a possible deal for a ‌ Bloodborne return ⁣developed by Bluepoint Games.

As of now,Bluepoint Games has not confirmed the nature ⁣of its current project. The studio’s recent job listing, however, continues ‌to ignite discussion and anticipation within the gaming community.
