Dodgers Edge Brewers 2-1 in Nail-Biting NLCS Opener
MILWAUKEE – The Los angeles Dodgers defeated the milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in a tense Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Monday, October 13, 2025. The victory came on the road and was secured by a late home run from freddie Freeman.
The game was a pitcher’s duel for much of the night, highlighted by a dominant performance from dodgers starter Blake Snell.Snell allowed only one hit – a leadoff single by Caleb Durbin in the third - and retired his final 17 batters. He became the first pitcher to face the minimum 24 batters in eight innings in a postseason game as Don larsen’s perfect game for the New York Yankees against the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1956 World Series.
The Dodgers broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning when Freeman hit a home run. The Brewers responded in the bottom of the seventh with a rally sparked by Brandon Lockridge reaching third base. Christian yelich then walked on a 3-2 pitch, prompting Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to replace Snell with reliever Joe Treinen. Yelich stole second, and william Contreras walked to load the bases. Treinen narrowly avoided hitting Turang with a pitch before striking him out swinging on a fastball.
“That’s what you imagine in the playoffs. You’re on the edge of your seat for nine innings,” freeman said. “That was a massive road win for us in the NLCS.”
snell did not attempt to persuade Roberts to allow him to pitch the ninth inning. “He said that was it, so I just trust him,” Snell stated.
Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Tuesday night, featuring Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitching for the Dodgers against Freddy Peralta for the Brewers.
The NLCS presents a stark contrast between the Brewers, representing MLB’s smallest market, and the Dodgers, boasting the league’s most expensive roster. Brewers manager Pat Murphy jokingly noted the disparity in star power, saying, “I’m sure most Dodger players can’t name eight guys on our roster.” Despite sweeping their six regular-season matchups, all in July, the Brewers faced a different Dodgers team with a healthy Snell, who was on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation during those earlier contests.
