Phoenix Area Faces Road Closures, Flight Delays as Storms Bring Power Outages
Severe storms are impacting the Phoenix metropolitan area, leading to significant road closures, flight disruptions at Sky Harbor International airport, adn power outages affecting hundreds of customers. The sudden shift in weather, following recent high temperatures, is creating hazardous conditions for travelers and residents alike.
The dramatic weather change-from a high of 100°F earlier this week to widespread rainfall-is the result of the remnants of Tropical Storm Priscilla.The National Weather Service anticipates continued storm activity through the weekend, prompting officials to urge caution and preparedness.
Both directions of US 60 in Mesa are currently closed due to flooding and standing water, with no estimated time for reopening. The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has also closed Sossaman Road from Elliot Road to Warner Road, Old US 80 from Patterson Road to Enterprise road, and Narramore Road at 214th Avenue, all due to flooding.

Meteorologist Jorge Torres reported on October 8, 2025, that the Valley experienced a “big weather swing” from extreme heat to potential storms, with the highest chance of storms expected Friday and Saturday.
