Green Party Membership Surges to Record High Following Leadership Change
The Green Party of England and Wales has reached a milestone, surpassing 100,000 members for the first time, according to a statement released today. The growth comes after Zack Polanski was elected leader last month.
Polanski, in a speech this month to the party’s annual conference, warned that without decisive action, Keir Starmer‘s Labor Party would “hand this contry on a plate” to Reform UK. He reiterated this position responding to the new membership figure, stating, “More than 100,000 people have now joined the Green movement. That’s 100,000 people who believe politics can be honest, fair and hopeful again.”
The party leader emphasized a desire to move beyond simply being a disappointed alternative to Labour. “I was serious when I said we’re here to replace them,” Polanski said. “Because while Labour talks about change, people can see in their weekly shop, their utility bills and crumbling services, Labour are offering more of the same.”
Polanski positioned the green Party as the primary opposition force in British politics, advocating for policies centered on fair taxation, environmental sustainability, and prioritizing ”compassion and courage” over corporate interests. “The Greens are the only real opposition left in British politics,” he asserted. “we are here to make hope normal again.”
