‘The Wild Robot‘ Series, ‘Daily Show‘ take Top Honors at Environmental Media Awards
LOS ANGELES – Animated adaptation The Wild Robot, alongside The Daily Show with Nick offerman, were among the winners recognized at the 2024 Environmental Media Association (EMA) Awards, celebrating storytelling that raises awareness of critical environmental issues.The awards, presented Saturday, spotlighted productions across documentary, reality, children’s, drama, adn variety series, and also student films, for their impactful narratives.
The EMA Awards are increasingly vital as climate change and biodiversity loss accelerate, demanding greater public engagement. This year’s winners demonstrate the power of entertainment to educate and inspire action, reaching diverse audiences with compelling stories. The awards recognize not only the creative teams but also the growing commitment within the entertainment industry to sustainable production practices and responsible storytelling.
EMA Awards 2024: Key Winners
Documentary Series: The Americas, “The Gulf Coast” – BBC Studios Natural History Unit, in association with Universal Television Choice Studio. mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild, “Safe Passage For Whales” – Hearst Media Production Group, Mutual of Omaha, and Wild Hope, “Thunder and Fire” – HHMI Tangled Bank Studios and red rock Films were also recognized.
Reality series: The visioneers with Zay Harding, “Sustainable Skylines” – Hearst Media Production Group, VoLo Foundation took the top prize.Top Chef, “Foraged in Fire” – NBCUniversal, Bravo, Magical Elves, and Life Below Zero, “Night Moves” – Produced by BBC Studios for National Geographic were also honored.
Children’s Series: mission Unstoppable, “Filtering Water, Frog Babies, and Firefighting” - Hearst Media Production Group, Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media was awarded. Jane, “Pan troglodytes” – Apple TV+ in association with Sinking Ship Entertainment, and A Real Bug’s Life, “Love in the Forest” – National Geographic, Plimsoll Productions were also acknowledged.
Drama Series: Gray’s Anatomy, “Drop it Like it’s Hot” – Shondaland & 20th Television earned the award. Alien: Earth, “Neverland” – FX on Hulu, Yellowstone, “Life is a Promise” – Linson Entertainment, Bosque Ranch Productions, treehouse films, 101 Studios, MTV Entertainment studios, and Paradise, “The Day” – 20th Television were also nominated.
Variety series: The Daily Show, “Nick Offerman Is Sounding the Alarm: America’s National Parks Are Under Attack” – Comedy Central (Paramount) was recognized. Aventura Gastronómica Colombia, “S3 episode Taganga” – Sony Pictures Television, and Real Time With Bill Maher, “S23 E13: April 25, 2025: Al Gore, Sen. Adam Schiff, Bret Stephens” – HBO in association with Bill maher Productions were also in the running.
Student Film: Nishi – School: IAFM – Eco Film Lab Residency won the student film category. Patchwork In Progress – School: Cal State Long Beach, and Ashes to the Eyes – School: The City College of New York were also finalists.
