TEL AVIV - Egypt will host a peace summit on Monday, October 13, 2025, bringing together former U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, according to an announcement made during a jubilant gathering in tel Aviv’s Hostages Square. The news arrived as celebrations erupted following the release of Gadi Moses, held captive for 482 days.
The summit’s timing coincides with ongoing efforts to secure the release of remaining hostages and de-escalate the conflict in Gaza. While details remain scarce, the involvement of Trump-acting as an emissary-and Al-Sisi signals a potential shift in diplomatic strategy. The announcement was met with a mixed reaction in the square, were some attendees excitedly identified a perceived sighting of the American envoy, while others voiced disapproval at the mention of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s name.
Earlier in the day, Efrat Machikawa, niece of the newly freed Gadi Moses, declared, “you made history,” prompting a wave of applause. The square, filled with Israeli and a scattering of American flags, served as the backdrop for this developing diplomatic initiative.
