Actor Starring in Marvel’s Wolverine Was Once Face of Microsoft‘s abandoned Uncharted Rival
Liam McIntyre, currently portraying Wolverine in the upcoming marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5, was previously the lead actor in a cancelled Microsoft project codenamed “Project Ranger.” The revelation comes from a new video by Did You know Gaming?, detailing the game’s development and eventual fate.
Originally envisioned as a blend of Mission Unfeasible and Uncharted, Project Ranger was being developed by Black Tusk Studios (later renamed The Coalition) in Vancouver. Microsoft showcased a brief gameplay demonstration of the title, then known as Shangheist, at E3 2013. McIntyre was reportedly paid a significant sum for the use of his likeness, an investment Microsoft later repurposed when he was cast as JD Fenix in Gears of War 4.
The cancellation of Project Ranger occurred after Microsoft acquired the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games. Studio leadership persistent black Tusk was better suited to developing titles within the gears of War universe, citing the project’s strongest element as its shooting mechanics – a fit for the established Gears formula.
