Pope Encourages Croatian Faithful to Preserve and Share Their Vibrant Faith
Vatican city – Pope Leon XIV warmly greeted Croatian pilgrims gathered in St. Peter‘s Square on Tuesday, October 7th, for their annual National Pilgrimage. He praised their strong showing as a testament to the enduring faith within the Croatian people, a faith he noted has remained steadfastly connected to the Church for generations, tracing its lineage back to the Apostle Peter.
The Pope expressed his joy at witnessing the continued growth of faith in Croatia, attributing its vitality to the dedication of families, local church communities, and various religious associations. He emphasized the importance of cherishing the traditions passed down through the years, urging Croatians to continually revitalize them while remaining receptive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Acknowledging that many Croatian believers live and work abroad,the Pope encouraged them to maintain a strong connection to their Christian heritage,serving as witnesses to the love of christ and the Church wherever they may be.
“Look always to Jesus, the Good Shepherd, your guide and companion,” he implored, stressing the importance of faithful and obedient discipleship.He further called on the faithful to actively share their beliefs, passing on the Christian values woven into Croatia’s rich history and culture to future generations. “In this way,” he stated, “you will continue to build a world founded on peace, goodness, and hope.”
The Pope concluded the meeting by bestowing his blessing upon the pilgrims, and offered a special prayer for the protection of the Lord and the Virgin Mary, revered as Croatia’s heavenly guardian.
