Actor Mike Lebanon dazzles on Dutch Game show with Barefoot Preference
Amsterdam, Netherlands – Actor Mike Lebanon is making headlines not just for his appearance on the popular Dutch game show De Slimste Mens (The Smartest Person), but for his unconventional footwear choice – or lack thereof. During a segment with presenter Herman van der Zandt, Lebanon revealed his preference for going barefoot, explaining it takes approximately thirteen minutes for him to feel pleasant removing his shoes.
“What’s nice about it?” van der Zandt inquired. Lebanon responded,”It is indeed the freedom that your feet have to be able to spread,to feel and to be able to be touched.” He further elaborated that being barefoot provides a massage for the entire body.
While Lebanon isn’t opposed to shoes entirely – “I need this,” he stated – he prioritizes barefoot freedom whenever possible.”But if it is cold or wet outside, the actor grabs his shoes. Then again.” He actively seeks opportunities to remove his shoes in warm environments, such as cinemas, trains, and at home, declaring, “Those feet have to free.”
Unfortunately for fans of Lebanon’s barefoot style, his run on De Slimste Mens was short-lived. He was eliminated in the final round by ESPN presenter aletha Leidelmeijer.
this season marks Herman van der Zandt’s debut as the show’s host, with support and messages from his predecessor, philip freriks.
De Slimste Mens airs every weekday at 9:30 PM on NPO 1.
Context: The Rise of Barefoot Living
while seemingly a quirky personal preference, Lebanon’s choice taps into a growing trend of “barefoot living” or “earthing.” Proponents believe that direct contact with the earth’s surface can have positive health benefits, ranging from reduced inflammation to improved sleep. Although scientific evidence is still emerging, the practice has gained traction in wellness circles, with advocates citing a reconnection to natural rhythms and sensory stimulation as key benefits. This trend reflects a broader cultural shift towards prioritizing natural experiences and mindful living.
