NEW YORK – Dominican Republic’s Fiordaliza⁣ Cofil⁤ Paulino has a chance to claim a $250,000 bonus if she⁤ breaks the world record in the 400-meter⁢ dash at a women’s-only track meet scheduled for 5:00 pm at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, near Manhattan. The event, debuting in ⁣2024, offers a total prize‌ pool of $60,000 to ⁢$2,500 for the ⁤top six‍ finishers, but the substantial bonus adds significant stakes to ⁢Paulino’s attempt.

The‍ competition represents the final stop in a global campaign that began in ⁣mexico in ‌March, with subsequent ​events held in​ Jamaica, the United States, France, Monaco, ‌Poland, and Switzerland. ​Paulino arrives‌ in‍ peak form, ‌carrying the ‌third-best ⁤time⁣ in history ⁤- 47.98‍ seconds – from her performance in Japan.She aims to surpass the longstanding world record of 47.60‌ seconds, held by former East German athlete Marita Koch.
