Building Collapse in Madrid Leaves Four Missing, Ten Injured

A building under construction collapsed in Madrid, Spain, on tuesday, October 7, resulting in multiple injuries and a search operation for missing workers. Authorities report that four individuals are currently unaccounted for.
according to a statement from the prefect at the scene, approximately ten people sustained injuries. While most injuries are reported as minor, at least one individual suffered fractures and is receiving medical attention.
Emergency Response Underway
Emergency services are currently on site,actively searching for the missing workers. Law enforcement has cordoned off the area surrounding the collapsed structure with yellow tape, and numerous ambulances and police vehicles are present.
Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida is also at the location, overseeing the response efforts.
“Ther was a huge noise, windows were shattered, there was a lot of white dust, we couldn’t see anything anymore,” recounted Milagros Garcia Benito, an employee at a hair salon across from the building, in a statement to AFP.
Madrid emergency services confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that drones are being utilized in the search operation. An inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse. Adjacent buildings are being evacuated as a precautionary measure.
