Albany, NY – The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B) is accelerating its efforts to safeguard New York’s historical records through its digitize New York initiative. The program, a collaborative effort with historical societies, churches, town halls, cemeteries, and individual researchers statewide, aims to convert fragile and inaccessible records into searchable online resources for family history enthusiasts.
On an upcoming date during NYG&B Week, Kalyn Loewer, NYG&B’s Digital Collections Manager, and Anna Gardner, Coordinator, Digitize New York, will present an update on the project’s achievements. The presentation will cover the progress made in preserving and digitizing records across New York State, the operations of the three Digitization Centers located in Buffalo, New York City, and syracuse, and the impact of the loaner digitization kit program.
The update will also preview future plans for Digitize New York,alongside a detailed exploration of the Immanuel Lutheran Church collection (New York City), recently preserved and published online thanks to the initiative. Loewer will demonstrate the collection’s search capabilities and highlight key findings.
