Family Alleges Medical center Operated by ‘Organized Criminal Gang’ Following Patient Death
Madrid - The family of Sara Gómez, who died following a surgical procedure, has publicly accused the Virgen de la Caridad Medical Center of operating as an “organized criminal gang.” Rubén Gómez, brother of the deceased, leveled the accusation, alleging systemic negligence and deceptive practices within the hospital. The claims center around concerns that patients were not operated on by the doctors they consented to, and that critical delays in emergency response contributed to Sara Gómez’s death.
The allegations, made during an appearance on the Spanish television program Equipo de Investigación, raise serious questions about patient safety and clarity within the private healthcare system. The family’s legal team has formally requested to act as a private prosecutor in the case against Dr. kebeya, the physician involved in the procedure, and is pursuing criminal charges against the medical center itself. This case highlights growing concerns about accountability and oversight in Spanish private healthcare, possibly impacting thousands of patients who rely on these institutions.
According to Rubén Gómez, the hospital’s practices involved a substitution of surgeons during operations. “The response of the Virgen de la Caridad Medical Center is more afraid than reality itself,” he stated. “Patients hire the intervention of a doctor, but, when they sleep in the operating room, ‘the doctor comes out and another doctor enters, which is the one who operates.'”
the family asserts that a four-hour delay in calling an ambulance after Sara Gómez’s condition deteriorated was a critical failure. “We, with the Criminal Code in hand, say that the Virgen de la Caridad Medical Center is an organized criminal gang,” Rubén Gómez declared.
The allegations stem from events investigated as part of a 2025 Equipo de Investigación program, available in full on atresplayer.com.
