Autumn Allergies Pack a Bigger Punch than Spring for Millions
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – Allergic rhinitis symptoms often intensify in the fall, impacting an estimated one in five people, according to recent reports. While spring is commonly associated with allergies, experts say autumn presents unique challenges due to factors like ragweed pollen, mold spores, adn increased indoor time.
Understanding the root cause of allergic rhinitis is crucial for effective management. A precise diagnosis, possibly involving an endoscope examination and serum testing, allows for tailored environmental controls and treatment plans. Repeated rhinitis symptoms warrant a visit to a medical professional before they become debilitating, enabling proactive prescription of appropriate therapies.
Treatment typically begins with allergen reduction strategies. Pharmaceutical interventions include steroid nasal sprays and second-generation antihistamines. Allergen immunotherapy – gradually exposing the body to the allergen – is another option. For individuals with structural nasal issues, such as a deviated septum, surgical correction might potentially be considered if medication proves insufficient.
“Patients with repeated rhinitis symptoms should visit the hospital in advance before the symptoms appear to be prescribed for rhinitis control,” stated Seo Min-young, a professor of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.
