Kaukauna Libary to Offer Free Repair services at Inaugural Fix-It Clinic
KAUKAUNA, WI – Residents can breathe new life into broken household items-for free-at the Kaukauna Public Library‘s first Fix-It Clinic on October 6th. The event offers a unique opportunity to learn repair skills and avoid costly replacements, promoting sustainability and resourceful living within the community.
The library is hosting the clinic to address a growing need for accessible repair options and to empower individuals with the knowledge to troubleshoot common household problems. Repair coaches will guide participants thru the process, fostering understanding and self-sufficiency. The Fix-It Clinic will focus on a range of common repairs, including small appliances (lamps, toasters, blenders – cord repairs only, no large appliances or circuit board issues), small furniture (wobbly legs, hinges – excluding antiques), and clothing (hemming, seams, button replacement – no leather, and items shoudl be free of cat hair due to allergies).
Book repairs will also be available, encompassing taped pages, spine/cover repairs, and page edge stain removal, though full rebinding is not offered. For electronics, coaches can diagnose and troubleshoot computers, phones, and other devices, fix broken circuit boards, and even 3D print custom replacement parts. However,cracked screens and data recovery from damaged hard drives are beyond the scope of the event.
