FBR Extends income Tax Return Filing Deadline to October 15
ISLAMABAD - Teh Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced late Tuesday night an extension of the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2025 until October 15. The decision reverses the board’s previous firm stance against granting an extension.
the move came hours before the original September 30 deadline was set to expire. The FBR stated the extension was granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, and in response to requests from trade bodies, tax bar associations, and the general public.
Just one day prior, the FBR had emphatically urged taxpayers to file before September 30, explicitly stating no extension would be provided. An official statement dismissed social media reports suggesting otherwise and refuted claims linking a potential extension to the recent floods, labeling them “false, baseless, and misleading.” The board also denied reports of slowdowns in the Integrated Risk Information System (Iris), calling them “unfounded.”
