trump Unveils Gaza Plan, Pledges Aid and New Governing Body to Halt Conflict
WASHINGTON D.C. – Former President Donald Trump has outlined a plan for post-conflict Gaza, centered on establishing a transitional governing body he would chair, dubbed the “board of peace,” and a commitment to aid levels mirroring a january 19 agreement focused on infrastructure rehabilitation. The proposal, revealed publicly, aims to end the ongoing war and explicitly prevent the displacement of Palestinians.
The initiative comes as international pressure mounts to find a lasting solution to the humanitarian crisis and security concerns in Gaza. Trump’s plan seeks to bypass existing Palestinian governance structures, including Hamas, and install a new administration comprised of Palestinians and international experts. The stakes are high, with the future of gaza’s two million residents and regional stability hanging in the balance. The plan’s success hinges on acceptance from key stakeholders, including Israel, Arab nations, and the international community.
Trump stated the aid package will be “at least at the levels consistent with the amounts specified in the agreement dated Jan. 19,” which includes funding for the rehabilitation of infrastructure, hospitals, and bakeries, as well as the provision of equipment for debris removal and road clearance.
The proposed “board of peace” would work alongside institutions like the World Bank to “recruit and train a new government” for Gaza. Trump asserted that he was asked to lead this effort by “the leaders of the Arab world and Israel and everybody involved,” adding, “It will be headed by a gentleman known as President Donald J. Trump of the United States.” Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and othre unnamed national leaders are also slated to participate.
Trump emphasized a firm stance against the inclusion of Hamas or other “terrorist factions” in any governing role, stating they “will play no role…directly or indirectly.”
During private discussions with israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said Netanyahu “was very clear about his opposition to a Palestinian state.” Trump also criticized countries that have recognized Palestinian statehood, calling their actions “foolish” and attributing them to “being very tired of what’s going on for so manny decades.”
