OVCC Soccer Standings Shift as Tech, EIU Secure Weekend victories
MARTIN, Tenn. - The Ohio Valley Conference womenS soccer landscape saw notable movement this weekend, with Tennessee Tech and Eastern Illinois both earning crucial victories on Sunday, September 28. Tech dominated Western illinois 6-1, while EIU edged UT Martin 1-0.
tennessee Tech’s offensive firepower was on full display against the Leathernecks, marking their largest goal output as a 7-0 win over Southern Indiana on September 24, 2023. allison Lee scored in the 49th minute for her first goal of the season and eighth of her career, capping a six-goal performance for the Golden Eagles. Kirsten Palya opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, assisted by melina Hamm. Cuadra netted two goals (9th and 20th minutes) with assists from Katie Toney, Natalie Howard, and Anna Baker (her first career assist). Smiley added a goal in the 29th minute, assisted by Cheyenne mccloud. Western Illinois’ lone goal came from Claire Brown on a free kick in the 87th minute. Tech registered a season-high 29 shots, led by Tori Soutuyo’s career-best six attempts, while limiting western Illinois to just three shots. Goalkeeper Maggie Conrad recorded one save for her 24th career win.
In martin, Tennessee, Eastern Illinois secured a 1-0 road win over UT Martin thanks to an early goal from Alex Tetteh. tetteh scored at 3:54, assisted by Adison Welsh and Ella Onstott.The goal continued a prolific week for Tetteh, who previously scored four goals in a match against Western Illinois, tying the OVC and EIU record. EIU goalkeeper Ella Kratochvil posted her fifth consecutive shutout, and third straight in OVC play, making ten saves. UT Martin’s Unni Wolf and Alexandra Weihs each had two shots on goal. EIU finished with 14 total shots.
Tennessee Tech improves to 6-4-2 overall and 3-0 in the OVC,while UT Martin falls to 1-5-6 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. western Illinois is now 1-12-0, 0-3-0 OVC. Eastern Illinois is 6-4-2 3-0 in the OVC.
