Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Disconnected from Ukrainian Grid, Kyiv Claims
UNITED NATIONS – Kyiv has accused Moscow of disconnecting the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant from the Ukrainian electrical network for the past four days, raising renewed concerns about the safety and security of the facility. The accusation comes amid escalating tensions and a backdrop of increased military activity in the region.
Russian Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, addressed Germany’s growing military posture, denouncing what he termed “military rhetoric” and accusing Berlin of a resurgence of Nazi-era ambitions.
“Regarding the militarization of Germany, we have repeatedly expressed our very deep concerns,” Lavrov stated. “It is not only a process of current remilitarization, flagrant signs of a rebirth of Nazism are also observed.”
Lavrov further suggested a parallel between ancient and current German ambitions, stating, “Why does it happen? Problably in the same goal as that which Hitler had set himself: submit all of Europe to his control and try to inflict a strategic defeat at the time against the Soviet union, and today against Russia.”
These comments follow announcements from Berlin regarding a significant increase in defense spending and a renewed focus on military capabilities. With the appointment of Conservative Friedrich Merz to the Chancellery,Germany aims to become a leading force in European rearmament, citing the perceived Russian threat and diminishing U.S. engagement.
on Thursday, Berlin announced a €35 billion space defense program and signaled its intention to engage in an “arms race” in the field of drone technology. Together, the german army initiated three days of military maneuvers in Hamburg, simulating a military escalation along the borders of the Baltic states, which border Russia.
