Kazan, Russia – September 25, 2024 – Rubin Kazan head coach Rashid Rakhimov revealed the reasoning behind the club’s signing of midfielder Daler Kuzyaev, officially announced Wednesday, September 24th. Rakhimov stated Kuzyaev prioritized remaining in Russia after exploring options elsewhere.
Speaking to Rubin’s club channel,Rakhimov detailed a conversation with the player that led to the agreement.
“He also wanted to play in Europe, there would be something suitable, I think he remained. Daler did not really want to go to Saudi Arabia or Turkey, so he came to the conclusion that I need to try to stay in Russia again” – said Rakhimov in the interview.
Kuzyaev, 32, became a free agent in july 2024 after a stint with French club Guingamp, were he featured in 46 matches as the summer of 2023, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
Transfermarkt currently values Kuzyaev at 3.5 million euros. Prior to his time in France, Kuzyaev played in the Russian Premier League for Akhmat Grozny and zenit Saint Petersburg, where he made 183 appearances and enjoyed the most triumphant period of his career.
Rubin Kazan will next face Lokomotiv Moscow on September 27th in a match representing the 10th round of the RPL season.
